Event history

Lisbon has a longer marathon lineage, while the current EDP event's winner sequence begins with the 2013 race from Cascais. Recent course changes mean older runner accounts describe a different start and, sometimes, a different finish.

Runner perspectives

Selected summaries of public runner reviews. These describe the editions and distances noted, and experiences may change.

The picturesque Cascais opening appealed to him, but the older route's undulations, industrial outskirts and rising heat made the closing miles much harder than expected.

Typical race weather

October in Lisbon

Average daytime high
20.7°C
Average overnight low
16.7°C
Average monthly precipitation
79 mm

October averages suggest mild days and relatively mild nights in this coastal model cell. A light outfit with a removable layer gives more flexibility than dressing for either average alone. Average daily highs are 20.7°C and overnight lows 16.7°C. Average precipitation totals about 79 mm over the whole month. Rain preparation is sensible, but the total does not give the chance or timing of rain during the race. These are historical regional averages, not a forecast or race-hour temperatures; the coast, hills and start line may differ.

What to wear

  • Racing: a technical T-shirt or singlet with shorts is a useful starting point; adjust for your comfort and the forecast.
  • Waiting at the start: bring a removable light layer; use a rain shell or poncho if rain is forecast.
  • After finishing: keep a dry top and an extra layer in your finish bag.
  • These are editorial clothing suggestions. Check the forecast close to race day and adapt to your own comfort.
